DUIShenanigans: Thank god you didn't go with Remington ha ha THEY have in my opinion the worst Customer service. Buying an R1 was one of the biggest gun buying fails I have done in a long time. When i went and picked up the gun from my FFL I noticed that the front post sight had a chip out of it at the base in the front of the sight right above the slide itself. Experience has taught me..."thats a red flag right there" well I accepted the transfer and went to the range with it. first few mags went through fine, I loaded the next mag and brought up my sight picture and noticed my front (middle post) was missing. I unloaded the gun and looked at the front of the slide. The front post broke off the gun, the dove tail was still in the slide, but the front post was gone. This ended my range day. I went home and went to Remington's website, and they had contact page which had a "technical question/service" drop down option. I took pictures of the gun because you know "pics or it didn't happen" sent them those as well as an explanation of what happened. Thinking Remington being a big company would take care of it, sent me a response like a week later telling me that my issue was not something that Remington had induced, but rather something "I" did to it. So I called them up and went through all the menus and finally got a Customer service rep. I explained to him what happened, explained that I sent in photos to their contact page, and lastly asked what could be done about it. There was a pause from their end, and I was put on hold...and eventually hung up on. I called back, same process thinking "perhaps I lost connection or you know accidents happen" got the same guy....mentioned I had just called, he interrupted me and said he was getting his manager....put me on hold again...and again got hung up on. waited a day "pissed" maybe a different guy or gal would pick up tomorrow. Called back got the manager this time "thank god" explained my issue, explained I had been trying to get this issue resolved. Was told my issue was something related with operator error, and he said that modifying the gun voids the warranty...I explained as calm as I could that I did not modify the gun in any way, their poor quality sight just broke....I mean its not even a night sight, just a front post with white dot....probably $10 to replace, but no Remington wont fix the issue. I asked him why they wont stand behind their product, and honest to god was told..."sir, we appreciate you purchasing one of our firearms, take a handgun operations course, please don't call back again" I hung up on him this time. I replaced the front sight, sold the gun for dang near what I paid for it ($1180), and since then advised anyone who asks me about what 1911 they should get to stay clear away from Remington. I did what you did. bought a springfield, same one in fact, not a single failure of any kind. Hope you still own your gun and hope you still like it. great choice sir, have a good day.
